Retired Government Worker Beaten to Death at Northeast China Prison

A retired worker from China's Environmental Protection Agency was beaten to death at a prison in Northeast China on October 7, within less than a month of being imprisoned there for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. The Falun Dafa Information Center calls for immediate punishment of the prison personnel responsible.

Over two dozen Falun Gong practitioners have died due to abuse in custody since January 1, 2011, according to reports received by the Falun Dafa Information Center and published on Thursday. In a feature particular to the campaign against Falun Gong, several of the victims died after being held in makeshift "brainwashing centers" where torture and ingestion of unknown drugs were used to force people to renounce their practice of Falun Gong.

Northeast China Prison Under Lockdown After Deaths Exposed Online

A prison camp in Northeast China has been put under lockdown after three Falun Gong detainees died there within two weeks and evidence of the sudden deaths was posted online. In an effort to prevent additional details from being leaked, guards and prisoners alike are having their phones monitored and the victims' families are being tailed by security agents. Torture and abuse intensified at Jiamusi Prison in Heilongjiang province in February after personnel received orders in early 2011 to increase the "transformation rate" among Falun Gong practitioners held at the camp—part of a nationwide three-year Communist Party campaign to reinvigorate such efforts. As a result, three middle-aged male practitioners died between February 26 and March 8, 2011.

Restaurant Owner Dies from Labor Camp Torture

A 42-year-old owner of a dumpling restaurant in Northeast China died in his home at the end of February, unable to recover from one and half years of physical and mental torture in a Re-education Through Labor (RTL) camp, the Falun Dafa Information Center has learned. His is one of over 400 documented Falun Gong deaths in Liaoning province since 1999.
