The health of a professor imprisoned in Chongqing for practicing Falun Gong has badly deteriorated and his life may be in danger. The 37-year-old Mr. Tang Jian (??) was abducted during an intensified crackdown on Falun Gong in the city led by former Communist Party official Bo Xilai. After requesting medical treatment for him, his wife has disappeared and is believed in police custody.

Inside China: Falun Gong Practitioners Abducted, Killed in Crackdown ahead of U.S. Governor’s Visit

At least one Falun Gong practitioner has been killed and another sent to a labor camp in Hebei province, as security forces cracked down ahead of an August visit to the region by Iowa governor Terry Branstad. The assaults came in an effort to identify who posted on the internet details of a petition signed by 700 villagers calling for the release of a Falun Gong neighbor.

Inside China: Dozens Form Human Wall to Block Abduction of Falun Gong Neighbor



At least 70 people in Hebei province formed a human wall and signed an appeal letter to oppose the abduction of a 58-year-old Falun Gong practitioner in mid-June. This is the latest in a string of cases of Chinese citizens publicly voicing support for Falun Gong, particularly in northeastern China. The petition is the fourth to come to light in the last two months.
