A smiling Huang Cheng, a 58-year-old retired factory worker from Liaoning province, prior to his detention. From 1999 onward, Huang was detained over 15 times for practicing Falun Gong. As part of the pre-Olympic crackdown on Falun Gong, security agents abducted him from his home in the early morning of Feb 25, 2008. He was held in pre-trial detention until December of the same year, and then sentenced to six years at the Panjin City Prison, where he was tortured severely. At the instigation of the guards, prisoners were ordered to beat him. He was cuffed to the "Iron Chair," hung from the ceiling for three days, deprived of food and water, shocked with electric batons, and his fingernails were pierced with needles.

The prison beatings resulted in permanent injuries, and impaired Mr. Huang's brain functions. He was released on medical parole on Aug 19, 2010, and thereafter security agents continued harassing him at his home.

He passed away on February 24, 2011.
