Shaolin Liang, 51, sister of Yufeng Liang, 45, computer engineer in Massachusetts

OVERVIEW

Shaolin Liang, female, 51, librarian – elder sister of Yufeng Liang, 45, M.S., computer engineer in Massachusetts.

Shaolin began practicing Falun Gong in 1996 in Maoming City. In September 1999, she was detained in her workplace just for practicing Falun Gong. Since then, she has not been allowed to return home.

On October 6, 1999, Shaolin decided to travel to Beijing to peacefully appeal for Falun Gong, and she managed to escape from her workplace. She was seized en route by the police in Guangzhou and was sent to a local detention center. She was released only after going on a hunger strike for 7 days.

After this incident, Yufeng asked her to come to the United States, but Chinese officials would not grant her permission to leave China. Not long after, she was detained once again in the local detention center.

In January 2000, she was sentenced without trial to two years in Sanshui Labor Camp. She was denied any visitors including family members. For more than two years, there was no news of Shaolin. Finally, in April 2002, her family received a phone call saying she had been transferred back to a detention center in Maoming City. To this day, she is not allowed any contact with her family or friends.
